1. Talk Directly & Resolve Issues Early
Most conflicts are misunderstandingsāa simple, calm conversation can fix them.
Be clear and listenāexpress your concerns respectfully and hear the other personās perspective.
Avoid gossiping or involving others unnecessarilyāstick to direct communication.
š” If you donāt talk about it, you are accepting the situation.
2. Mediation with a Neutral Third Party
If direct communication doesnāt work, involve a neutral third partyāthis could be a trusted roomie, Coloc Buddy, or mediator.
The mediator listens to both sides and ensures a constructive discussion.
No accusations or blameāfocus on solutions.
3. House Panel Discussion
If mediation doesnāt work, a house panel of at least four roomies can deliberate and propose solutions.
This step is especially important for serious matters, like ongoing disruptions.
If the house has four or fewer people, this step may be skipped.
4. Coloc Housing Involvement
If no resolution is found, Coloc Housing can step in to mediate and provide guidance.
5. Final Decision & Voting (if necessary)
ā If all previous steps fail, a house vote may determine the next steps.
ā Majority vote decides the outcome.
šØ If a vote results in a roomie needing to leave:
They must issue their official notice and follow standard move-out procedures.
The goal is to ensure a smooth transition while respecting both the house and the departing roomie.
