At Coloc Housing, we believe that roomies should have a say in who joins their home. That’s why we have a roomie-driven selection process, ensuring that new members fit well into the existing community. Here's how it works:
1️⃣ Submitting Your Application
Browse available homes on our website and apply for the one that interests you.
Fill in your details and a short introduction about yourself—your background, interests, and how long you plan to stay.
Your application is then shared with the current roomies.
2️⃣ Roomie Review & Voting Process
Once your application is approved by Coloc Housing, it’s up to the roomies of the house to decide if you’re a good fit.
Roomies will receive a notification via email and chat to review your application.
They can chat with you directly through the Coloc Housing Chat.
You may be invited for a virtual or in-person visit to get to know the house and the people.
Roomies will vote “Yes” or “No” on your application.
3️⃣ How the Voting System Works
The voting system ensures fairness and allows roomies to decide together:
In the first month and a half of the notice period, voting works by absolute majority (more than half of the roomies must vote “Yes”).
In the last two weeks before the current roomie moves out, decisions are made by simple majority (whichever option gets the most votes).
During the final seven days, votes are locked, and the application is processed.🛑 Who can’t vote? Roomies who are in the process of moving out.
4️⃣ Approval & Contract Signing
Once approved by the majority, you will:
Receive your contract via email.
Have 24 hours to review, sign, and submit proof of your deposit payment.
Once your payment is received, your contract is activated, and the room is officially yours! 🎉
💡 If another candidate applied before you and was accepted, your application may be queued. If they don’t sign within 24 hours, you could receive the next contract offer.
Coloc Buddy Voting Privileges
In some cases, the Coloc Buddy has extra voting privileges, including:
Approving a candidate directly.
Reactivating a previously canceled candidate.
Pausing applications for five days if too many applications are coming in at once.
5️⃣ Coloc Housing’s Role in the Process
For the first month of the notice period, Coloc Housing does not interfere in the selection process (as long as it follows our core values of fairness and non-discrimination).
However, one month before the move-out date, Coloc Housing may:
Assist in the search for a replacement.
Override the voting process if necessary to prevent vacancies.
This ensures that rent remains fair for all roomies and that empty rooms do not impact the overall house budget.
🌍 Values & Fairness in the Selection Process
Coloc Housing stands against any form of discrimination based on gender, age, race, physical appearance, or religious background.
Every application is reviewed fairly, and we ensure a smooth, transparent process for all applicants.
