🏡 How Does the Application Process Work?

An application never hurt nobody!

Updated this week

Applying for a Coloc home is simple and designed to help you find the best match with your future roomies. Here’s how it works:

Browse Homes in Your City 🌍

Visit the Coloc Housing website (https://www.colochousing.com/en//) and check out the available homes in the city you’re interested in.

Create Your Account & Verify Your Phone Number 📱

Sign up for an account and verify your phone number to get started.

Choose a House & Apply 🏠

Pick a home with an available spot. If there are multiple options, select the one that fits you best. In your application, be sure to include as much detail about yourself as possible. Here are some things to mention in your bio:

  • What you do (job, company, etc.)

  • Your lifestyle (early riser, night owl, social, quiet)

  • Why you’re excited about this house and living with roommates (meet new people, cut costs...)

  • Any hobbies or interests that might be relevant.

Roomie review & voting✍️

Once your application is submitted, it’s up to the roomies of the house to decide if you’re a good fit.

  • Roomies will receive a notification via email and chat to review your application.

  • They can chat with you directly through the Coloc Housing Chat.

  • You may be invited for a virtual or in-person visit to get to know the house and the people.

  • Roomies will vote “Yes” or “No” on your application.

💡 Still waiting for a visit invite? If it’s been more than 24 hours, feel free to reach out to us. We can help you get in touch with the Roomies.

The voting system ensures fairness and allows roomies to decide together:

  • In the first month and a half of the notice period, voting works by absolute majority (more than half of the roomies must vote “Yes”).

  • In the last two weeks before the current roomie moves out, decisions are made by simple majority (whichever option gets the most votes).

  • During the final seven days, votes are locked, and the application is processed.🛑 Who can’t vote? Roomies who are in the process of moving out.

Approval & Contract Signing 📜

Once approved by the majority, you will receive your contract via email and will have 24 hours to:

  • Upload your ID

  • Provide a proof of solvency to confirm that everyone can jointly cover the rent

  • Review and sign the contract

  • Pay the onboarding, deposit and pro rated rent

Once your payment is received, your contract is activated, and the bedroom is officially yours! 🎉

💡 If another candidate applied before you and was accepted, your application may be queued. If they don’t sign within 24 hours, you could receive the next contract offer.

Coloc Buddy Voting Privileges

In some cases, the Coloc Buddy has extra voting privileges, including:

  • Approving a candidate directly.

  • Reactivating a previously canceled candidate.

  • Pausing applications for five days if too many applications are coming in at once.
