❄️ How Do I Clean and Defrost the Fridge and Freezer?

Updated over a month ago

Keeping your fridge and freezer clean ensures they run efficiently and keeps your food fresh. Follow these step-by-step instructions to maintain them properly.

1️⃣ Turn Off the Appliance

✔ Set the fridge dial to 0 or unplug it.

✔ Remove all food. Store it in a cool place or insulated bag.

2️⃣ Remove Shelves & Drawers

✔ Take out all removable parts and wash them separately.

✔ Use dish soap, mild all-purpose cleaner, or 1 tbsp baking soda in 5L of water.

✔ Rinse and dry completely before putting them back.

3️⃣ Wipe the Inside of the Fridge

✔ Clean all surfaces with the same solution.

✔ Rinse with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.

4️⃣ Clean the Drain Hole

✔ If there’s water pooling at the bottom, the drain hole may be clogged.

✔ Use a skewer or kitchen paper to clear the hole.

5️⃣ Clean the Back of the Fridge (for freestanding models)

✔ Wipe down the grid at the back of the fridge once a year to prevent overheating and save energy.

❄️ Defrosting the Freezer

1️⃣ Turn Off and Empty the Freezer

✔ Unplug it and remove all food.

2️⃣ Speed Up the Defrosting

✔ Place bowls of hot water inside to melt the ice faster.

Do not use a hairdryer or heating devices!

✔ Place towels at the bottom to absorb melting ice.

3️⃣ Remove Ice Buildup

✔ Use a plastic ice scraper or spatula.

Avoid sharp objects to prevent damage.

4️⃣ Clean the Freezer Interior

✔ Use the same dish soap/baking soda solution as the fridge.

✔ Rinse and dry completely.

5️⃣ Restart & Restock

✔ Plug the freezer back in and wait until it reaches the right temperature before adding food.
